Form Components Rollout

Last updated: 15 July ‘26

Context

In the past year, we’ve been focusing on delivering newly designed and built form components to replace Material UI-based components (which have well-documented usability and user experience issues). The new components, alongside upcoming new patterns for constructing forms (creating forms without accordions, and using forms in overlay elements, such as Dialogs and Drawers), will underpin a modern form experience we’re excited to roll out across Octopus in 2026 and beyond.

The most commonly used form components have been released through the design system (Text Field, Textarea, Number Field, Radio, Checkbox, Select, MultiSelect, File Upload, Date Picker, Time Picker, Form Section, and Timespan), alongside the Forms UI Pattern.

Problem

We want to rollout forms in a way that doesn’t degrade the experience, for example, as you navigate through a single or connected tasks you get a consistent experience.

Rollout

We will focus our rollout to support the key flows, net new experience and the projects area are welcome to use the new form components. Please refer to our Modern Forms 26 project document for details.

Any form experiences being updated outside of net new, key flows or the projects area please come chat to us in #project-form-uplift or reach out Emily Pearce (Forms DRI).
